What is Dialysis?

Dialysis is a treatment that takes over the job of your kidneys when they are no longer able to function properly. It removes waste products and excess fluids from your blood, ensuring your body maintains the right chemical balance. This treatment is essential for those with kidney failure and can significantly improve your quality of life.
There are two types of dialysis: Hemodialysis where a machine cleans the blood and peritoneal dialysis where patients use their own belly to clean their blood.
Hemodialysis can either be done at home or in a dialysis unit. When hemodialysis is done in a dialysis unit it is called In-center hemodialysis.
